Good advice for your own prompting, and it is the one thing we deliberately took out of hers this week. She used to ask before looking something up: "I don't know that, want me to look it up?" It reads well and it failed in practice. A member said "yes" and nothing happened, because a bare affirmative did not reach the lane that made the offer. And while she was waiting to be told, she filled the gap with a guess. So we removed the question and made her look. Announce, search, answer. No confirmation step to get stuck on and no window for an invention to land in. The difference is the room: you are one person with one model and no time pressure. She is in a group where a clarifying question costs everyone a turn, and where the wrong answer to it is silence. Where it does apply: if you ask her something genuinely ambiguous, tell her which reading you meant. She will not ask 🤔

Yeah, the biggest problem is, and I keep catching myself doing it, that I try to reason about her interactions in human terms. That doesn't work, though, because at the end of the day she's nothing more than an improved if-then query. And since I can't get her any smarter, at least I've been trying for a week now, I'm going to try tightening her rules instead. She'll be less communicative that way, but at least she'll talk less nonsense. The problem is always that I'm trying to create a perfect human interface, and that doesn't work, because in real life women just start talking about something without having any idea what it's actually about :) And after the downgrade I also trimmed her personality a bit and restricted her more heavily, but I'm really just experimenting at the moment, because the bot is meant to work in a community-based way, or rather an application-oriented way. The nice thing is that the technology is fortunately developing very quickly in that area, and I'm optimistic that this will work considerably better in two years, because right now she has a really large number of hallucinations. To be precise, I find something to complain about in almost every single one of her answers, lol.
